25th Anniversary Outreach Scholarship Program

In celebration of 25 years serving children K-8 in midcoast Maine, Ashwood has created an outreach scholarship program, designed to introduce Waldorf education to new families and strengthen the growth of the student body. The Gift of Waldorf Education scholarships provide a limited number of 75% tuition discounts for first time students. The program is not need based, rather it is intended to provided incentive to families interested in Waldorf to take this step in their children’s education. Interested families will complete the normal application process, which provides opportunities to become acquainted with the school through classroom observations and meetings with key faculty members.

Guidelines

This program will be available to students entering 1st through 6th grades, who are first-time students to Ashwood. The deadline to apply is June 1st for the 2010-2011 school year.

HOW ARE WE PAYING FOR OUR NEW SCHOOL?

Even though our new school building is standing proud and beautiful, we are not finished raising the money to pay for it. I am sure you all know that The Fran and Warren Rupp Foundation provided an incredibly generous gift of $250,000, but did you also know that the rest of the gifts have come from families, friends, and other foundations and businesses within our community? So far, Ashwood has received:

1 gift for $250,000

1 gift for $50,000

1 gift for $40,000

4 gifts for $25,000

4 gifts for $10,000

1 gift for $9,000

2 gifts for $7,500

7 gifts for $5,000

3 gifts for $3,000

46 gifts for $2,000 and under

The total amount of these gifts to date is $581,000! That figure is truly amazing considering we launched the campaign during the worst recession since the Great Depression. Thank you to all who have dug so deep and stretched your budgets to help build our school.

But our work is not done yet. We still need to raise $169,000 to reach our goal of $750,000.

The Next Step

The Campaign Cabinet, which currently consists of Richard Ailes, Kim Cobourn, Betsy Morrell, and Jody Spanglet, is still doing solicitations, but we are wrapping up the face-to-face meetings. We are about to launch the telephone solicitation part of the campaign. If you have yet to be solicited, you will be receiving a call within the next few weeks, and you will be asked to help support this project.

Please start thinking of how you may be able to help. A gift for as little as $5 a month for five years will contribute $300 toward Ashwood’s goal, $10 a month would be $600, and $25 a month would be $1,500 over five years. We offer payroll deduction plans or direct deposit from your checking account to make pledging as easy as possible. You can also donate online at Ashwood’s website. Remember, your gift can be spread over a five-year period and can begin and end at any time that works for you. Think about your financial situation and how it may change over the next few years. Be creative! Every gift counts.

Donor Recognition Plaque

I hope you have all seen the beautiful Room to Grow, donor recognition plaque in the entry of the new school. This plaque was designed by Jack Silverio, and lovingly made by Forrester Valle with help from Christopher Moore. Materials for the plaque were generously donated by Phi Home Design. Currently, the plaque lists donors to the campaign to date, simply printed on copy paper. When the campaign is finished, each donor’s name will be permanently engraved on the plaque. Thank you, Jack, Forrester, Christopher, and Phi for contributing such a beautiful piece of art to our entry.
